christmas lighting ceremony in 2010. the defense claimed entrapment, mohamed bought a fake bomb from undercover agents in a sting operation. the hunt is on in illinois and indiana for a convicted murderer mistakenly released by authorities. steven robbins is serving a 60 year prison sentence in indiana. he was in chicago yesterday to face drug charges ultimately dropped. instead of being returned to indiana, robbins was released from custody. update on the heartbreaking story we told you about yesterday. a vigil and march being held in chicago this afternoon for a teenage girl gunned down just days after taking part in the inauguration. the 15-year-old was caught in the cross fire between gang members making her one of 42 people killed in chicago just since the first of this year. in response to that, amazing gun violence, the mayor will move 200 police officers from desk

kerry is sworn in today as the nation's 68th secretary of state. no end in sight to the tense hostage standoff involving a gunman and 5-year-old boy in alabama. police say e dykes is holding the boy in an underground bunker stocked with supplies. only means of communication through a narrow ventilation pipe. the boy is autistic. medication has though been delivered through the pipe and police say jimmy lee dykes grabbed him after shooting the boy's school bus driver. a middle school student faces charges for a school yard shooting in atlanta. a 14-year-old was shot and wounded in the next thursday. the young gunman fired several rounds before an armed security guard was able to take away the weapon. police believe the two students had an altercation before the shooting. the victim was released from the hospital last night. the country is remembering a national tragedy this morning. ten years since the space shuttle "columbia" disaster.

bells will toll at space centers across the country at 9:16 a.m. the moment "columbia" broke apart on re-entry killing all five crew members over eastern texas during a teleconference with nasa, a group of high school science students in texas recalled what they saw and what they heard. >> i actually still remember the day. i was getting ready to go, and we were waiting and we were about to leave until we heard this loud noise. >> there will be a wreath laying ceremony at kennedy space center where hundred of people gathered in 2003 for the landing that never happened. an emergency landing for a passenger plane after the pilot passed out in the cockpit. the alaska airlines flight landed safely in portland after the first officer was forced to take over because the pilot was unconscious. the plane was on its way from los angeles to seattle when diverted. 160 people were on board at the

this morning on "world news now" -- the waiting game for hostage negotiators in alabama. >> they're talking to the suspect through a narrow pipe to make sure the 5-year-old boy held captive underground is safe. it's friday, february 1st. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." >> one more. one more. this is it. good friday morning, everybody. i am rob nelson. >> i'm sunny hostin. police in alabama just updated the hostage situation there and that is in our top story. and quite frankly i can't believe it has taken so long. you sort of see this in the movies, this negotiation. he has a little boy in there. >> they're getting medicine to the kid through the pipe, food down there, tv.

this could drag on. for weeks potentially. and this kid has some pretty interesting medical conditions as well. scary on a lot of levels. >> also this morning, the well respected prosecutor gunned down outside the courthouse in texas. the all-out search for a masked gunman. and that is a prosecutor's worst nightmare. >> prosecutors do make some enemies. an occupational hazard. >> yes. yes, we do. >> exactly. >> later this half-hour -- finding private pictures of yourself in x-rated poses on line. the victim thousands of a growing industry called revenge porn. and how they are fighting back. >> you know, and i feel for these ladies no question about it. because if you take photographs or videos within the privacy of your own home with someone that you care about they shouldn't end up on a website. but, the real answer is you just shouldn't do it. it only worked out for kim kardashian.

new developments in the hostage situation involving a gunman and 5-year-old boy. it is entering its fourth day. >> two remain in an underground bunker in midland city, alabama, with negotiators forced to talk through a ventilation pipe. our abc correspondent has the latest. good morning. >> reporter: rob, sunny, it is day four of the harrowing siege. a 5-year-old is being held hostage by a man who police say murdered the school bus driver. police are frantically working to rescue a 5-year-old boy from his armed suspected captor, 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes. >> negotiators continue to communicate with the suspect. and there is no reason to believe that the child has been harmed. >> reporter: police say the two are in a 6 x 8 bunker four feet under ground. the suspect may have food and supplies to remain underground for weeks. dykes has been speaking with police through a pvc pipe from the bunker to the surface. one neighbor says he has been at the bunker.

>> he has steps made out of cinder blocks, going down to it. at the time he had doors made out of plywood. nailed together. i asked him, i said, you know what are you using it for? he said, my storm shelter. where i used to live at the storms used to come through a lot. >> reporter: police say the boy has mild autism and the suspect allowed the child to have his medication. >> he is crying for his parents and his grandparents and he does not know what is going on. let this kid go. >> reporter: the community is praying for the buy's life. his pastor consoling many children that know him. >> i spoke to a young 13-year-old boy he was very much traumatized, his really good friend was taken. and was really wondering about his safety and protection. >> reporter: something everybody affected by the hostage situation are also wondering. the family's pastor says he has spoken with the boy's family and he says, quote, they're having a really tough time.

of course they're having a tough time. i have a 6-year-old. i just can't imagine something like that. and this, this child has a lot of medical issues. adhd, asperger's. i can't imagine what the parents are going through. more importantly i am wondering what is in this man's mind? >> clearly, you have to imagine, some mental issues. authorities say he spent some time in the bunker for long periods of time. this is nothing new for him. new that he took a hostage, a little boy. clearly a guy around the neighborhood known for strange, some times violent behavior. and a matter of time before it involved a human. beat a dog to death with a lead pipe. >> lead pipe. >> an escalating situation. and prayers for the little boy. if he makes it out, scarred from something like this. depressing on a lot of levels. a deadly ambush in kaufmann, texas, where a prosecutor was apparently targeted by a gunman

outside a courthouse. the 57-year-old was shot and killed in the parking lot moments after he got out of his car. eyewitnesses say the gunman was wearing a mask. police are going through the prosecutor's cases for a connection. >> they deal with bad people, like any prosecutor. so there is no reason to believe that there wouldn't be somebody out there that might have an ax to grind. certainly this carries it to an extreme. >> a long time assistant district attorney known for toughness. he handled drug and murder cases. friends say he was respected and very well liked inside of the courthouse. a disturbing federal court claims bomb sniffing dogs in airports may be a waste of money. a government investigation find s that the tsa is spending millions of tax dollars on dogs that can't detect explosives. dog teams were secretly followed for a year and failed to find bombs in passenger terminals.

the report says the dogs are simply not being trained properly. senate armed services committee could vote on the nomination of chuck hagel to be the next defense secretary. hagel faced off against some former republican senate colleagues yesterday in a bruising confirmation hearing. the sharpest exchange against senator john mccain who criticized hagel's opposition to the troop surge in iraq. and hagel apologized for using the term the jewish lobby in the past. >> i have already said i regret referencing the jewish lobby. i should have said pro israel. i think it is the only time on the record that i have ever said that. >> a republican plan to vote against him. he has backing among many democrats. blinding snow blamed for a deadly pileup on a michigan highway. the mile long stretch of crashes involving 30 trucks and cars. three people were killed

including two children believed to be siblings. and at least a dozen others were hospitalized. witnesses say they were driving on i-75 when conditions went from clear to whiteout in just a matter of seconds. a similar scene along a snowy highway west of minneapolis. three dozen big rigs, trucks, cars smashed into one another shutting down interstate 70. at least ten were hospitalized. the extreme conditions are putting part of the country in a deep freeze. accuweather's jim dickey has the latest. good morning, jim. >> good morning, a good deal colder. across the northeast today -- arctic air mass pushing in. many spots, 20, 30 degrees colder than they were yesterday. step out the door, 21, syracuse. 18, buffalo. 16, pittsburgh and detroit. as the cold air pushes over the relatively warmer lakes, big time lake-effect snows off lake erie, ontario and michigan. whiteout conditions under the heavier band. rob, sunny, back to you.

a group of women is suing an x-rated website that posted private intimate photos along with their names and addresses which is really terrible. one of a growing number of revenge porn sites. >> new term here -- revenge porn. add that to the vernacular of the country. jilted exes or hackers often post the photos. but the women are taking aim at the website and its host and its fans. here is abc's juju chang. >> reporter: holly has no idea who did it but when she saw a dozen topless photos of herself on the website. >> knowing someone could with the click of a button take whatever information they want from you and share it is really troubling and almost makes me want to shower with my clothes on. >> the fallout is terrible. women have lost their jobs as a result of this. most of them have become hermits.

all of them feel humiliated. >> reporter: john morgan filed the lawsuit against godaddy.com which provides web space for 54 million sites including mainstream businesses. the class action lawsuit began with 17 women and they have been joined by dozens of others in less than two weeks. what makes the case unusual is that they're also going after the subscriber list. to tear the mask of anonymity from the people who prowl the sites. why shame the subscribers and expose the guys looking at this? >> they're just as guilty. they should be held accountable because they're logging on, they're putting their credit card in, they're paying to see us exploited. >> reporter: eric goldman who teaches high tech law says their legal case is week. >> they can't win against the web host against the website and subscribers due to a law that congress enacted said the only people who are liable

for content on line are those who post it. >> reporter: these women are painfully aware they lost control of their own images and as well as their reputation. they feel their only recourse is to speak out even if the backlash at times is as harsh as the initial betrayal. i'm juju chang, beaumont, texas. >> went so far to call this as to call this a form of cyber-rape. >> i am sure they feel violated. i have got to tell you -- suing the site, i don't know there is that much recourse there. the federal government, federal courts rather have determined that web sites are protected. they have immunity. they're just hosting not providing the content. third parties are providing the content. and the issue with suing the, the boyfriend, you took the pictures. you consented. >> the content only exists because you allowed yourself to be photographed. >> i feel terrible for them. the teachable moment and takeaway is you just can't take these pictures. you just can't do it. >> moral of the story is, be careful before you get too
